The sensor part is waterproofed with a fluoropolymer heat shrink tube, allowing for long-term use in liquids and underground (please note that the alkaline resistance of the flexible material is low).

The micro:bit and sensor probe are connected to the main unit's socket and can be removed. The micro:bit can also be repurposed for other uses. The sensor probe can also read temperature from another microcontroller via I2C.
