Capture the Kashinona longhorn beetle and similar-sized insects in narrow gaps!
The "Kashinonagakikuisu Trap," co-developed with Masahide Kobayashi from the Kyoto Prefectural Forestry and Agriculture Technology Center, is a pest control trap designed to capture the Kashinonagakikuisu beetle, which is responsible for the phenomenon known as "nara-kare" (tree dieback), in order to protect forests. Nara-kare refers to the damage caused when the Kashinonagakikuisu beetle launches concentrated attacks on trees, leading to their death. There have been reports of damage caused by fallen trees that have decayed due to nara-kare, which can injure people. Previously, trunk injection was recommended, but in recent years it has not been advised due to its lack of effectiveness. Pest control traps that do not rely on chemicals are gaining attention as a safe method of prevention. The most costly aspect of nara-kare countermeasures is the treatment of dead trees, which also involves risks. Many pest control methods aim to "reduce the number of dead trees." The pest control method using the Kashinonagakikuisu Trap can suppress the occurrence of dead trees, thereby reducing the costs associated with their treatment and lowering overall expenses. Trees installed with the Kashinonagakikuisu Trap capture many of the incoming Kashinonaga beetles, making them less susceptible to concentrated attacks and helping to prevent dieback.

basic information
**Features** About half of the trees that have been penetrated by the wood-boring beetle become surviving trees. The beetles that penetrate these surviving trees die due to the tree's resistance (sap). On the other hand, in trees that have died from penetration, the beetles successfully reproduce, and their offspring cause damage the following year. The control method using wood-boring beetle traps is a way to reduce damage by supporting the trees, and it is a safe control method that does not rely on chemicals, utilizing the power of nature, and it does not require heavy labor.
