Vesuvius processes bricks used inside industrial furnaces. The bricks start in a "soft" state and need to be compressed, hardened, and heated before being placed in the furnace. They are packed into a steel box for compression, which solidifies the bricks; however, after compression, the bricks stick to the steel fixtures, requiring considerable force to remove. To address this, a 50-ton hydraulic cylinder and a manual hand pump are used. Pressure is applied to the release rod to detach the bricks from the steel fixtures.
