[Problem Solving Case] Extension of Mold Lifespan and Maintenance of High Dimensional Accuracy
Change to PVD coating with no dimensional changes! Ensures durability greater than CVD coating!
We received a request stating, "I don't want to change the type of coating, but I want to extend its lifespan," and we would like to introduce a case where we solved this issue. In fine blanking presses with a plate thickness of 10mm or more, molds have been treated with CVD processing due to the high loads applied to them, which provides excellent adhesion. However, because high-temperature treatment near 1000°C is required, maintaining the precision of the molds becomes very difficult, leading to increased labor for dimensional adjustments. In response, we considered switching to PVD coating, which does not change dimensions. By processing a special micro-dimple (FSA-50) as a base for PVD treatment, we can enhance compressive stress, reduce friction, and improve oil retention, ensuring durability that surpasses CVD coatings. **Key Points of Problem Solving** - PVD coating technology has made significant advancements in hardness, adhesion, and heat resistance. - It has reached the realm of Hv3500 or higher and heat resistance of 1200°C. - It is believed that these physical properties are approaching their limits, and there are increasing cases of adoption involving micro-dimple formation and composite treatments with nitriding as base treatments. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
