Asahi Kasei's high-performance plastic optical fibers have been developed by combining spinning technology cultivated through polymer technology and synthetic fibers. The light transmission characteristics of plastic optical fibers vary depending on the wavelength of light. (1) Weather resistance: The plastic optical fiber (POF) produced by Asahi Kasei Corporation is primarily made of P-MMA resin, which has excellent weather resistance, so its initial performance rarely deteriorates even after long periods. However, please be aware that if bare fiber (POF raw wire) is exposed to ultraviolet light for extended periods, changes such as yellowing may occur. (2) Heat resistance: The heat resistance of POF depends on the heat resistance of the plastic it is made from. (3) Flexibility: Plastic optical fibers have superior fracture strength compared to electrical wires when bent, but extreme bending can cause light transmission loss, so please use them within the allowable bending radius for each grade. For wiring with extreme bends, we recommend using Asahi Kasei Corporation's "Multi-Core POF," which does not experience a decrease in light transmission even when bent. (4) Chemical resistance: Plastic optical fibers can generally be affected by organic solvents, leading to a decrease in light transmission rate or mechanical strength, so please be cautious. For adhesive use, we recommend a room temperature curing two-component mixed epoxy adhesive.
