The FHF05 series thin-film heat flux sensor quantifies heat flow. It can measure the average heat flux at the attached location.
The FHF05 is the ideal sensor for those considering heat flow measurement. The FHF05 series offers five different models with varying sizes and sensitivity coefficients, allowing you to choose according to your needs. All models are flexible and come with an integrated T-type thermocouple and a thermal spreader* to reduce dependence on thermal conductivity. The rated temperature range is -70 to +120°C. The FHF05 measures heat flow from conduction, radiation, and convection. Optionally, all five models can use black BLK stickers and gold GLD stickers to individually determine heat transfer due to radiation and convection.

basic information
The heat flow sensor measures the heat flux passing through itself. Heat flux is expressed in units of W/m². The FHF05 outputs the representative heat quantity of the location where the sensor is attached. The sensing element of the FHF05 is made of a thermopile (a collection of thermocouples). The thermopile measures the temperature difference between the front and back of the sensor. The FHF is a passive sensor that does not require a power supply, and since the temperature difference between the front and back is usually very small, it results in a small voltage output. The sensor has a specific coefficient assigned to it, and by multiplying the output voltage by this coefficient, it can be converted to heat flow. To minimize the obstruction of heat flow by the sensor itself, there is a spacer (metal plate) inside, allowing for high-precision heat flow measurement. Since the output is a voltage signal, it can be measured with a general data logger, but we recommend using a HIOKI data logger, which allows for easy input of coefficients and temperature correction settings.

The heat flow sensor measures the heat flux passing through itself. Heat flux is expressed in units of W/m². The FHF05 outputs the representative heat quantity of the location where the sensor is attached. The sensing element of the FHF05 is made up of a thermopile (a collection of thermocouples). The thermopile measures the temperature difference between the front and back of the sensor. The FHF is a passive sensor that does not require a power supply, and since the temperature difference between the front and back is usually very small, it results in a small voltage output. The sensor has a specific coefficient assigned to it, which allows the output voltage to be converted into heat flow by multiplying it by this coefficient. Thermocouples made of dissimilar metals are embedded in large quantities. One thermocouple generates a voltage according to the temperature difference between the hot junction and cold junction on the front and back of the sensor. The signal is amplified by thermocouples connected in series. In a steady state, the heat flux is proportional to the temperature difference between the front and back of the sensor and the thermal conductivity of the sensor body.

Heat flow measurement is always influenced by radiation, conduction, and convection. If you want to measure radiation and convection separately, it is possible to measure them individually by using the "black" and "gold" sticker options. The "black" reacts to both radiation and convection. The "gold" reflects radiation, so it only reacts to convection. Therefore, the following calculations hold true: Radiation measurement + Convection measurement = Black Convection measurement = Gold Radiation measurement = Black - Gold Each sticker can also be applied later to standard heat flow sensors, and if specified at the time of order, we can apply them before shipping.
