Near Infrared Analyzer Technical Data 23 Food and Beverages Sucrose, glucose, and fructose are three common sugars that are absorbed in different ways in the body. These sugars have slightly different effects. A key factor in their impact on our health is whether these sugars are naturally present in food or added during processing. The measurement of individual sugars and Brix (sugar content; °Bx, a scale for dissolved sugar content) is an important quality parameter in the food industry. These measurements can be performed using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Ion Chromatography (IC), or Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). However, these methods tend to be time-consuming and have high running costs. On the other hand, Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) can measure many sugars simultaneously within one minute without the need for chemicals or sample pretreatment.
