Catalysts based on dibutyltin dilaurate (DBTDL), which possess excellent chemical reactivity and are easy to handle, have been widely used in the production of polyurethane resins used as materials for high weather-resistant coatings. However, due to the designation of dibutyltin dichloride as a substance of very high concern under the European REACH regulation, there has been a demand for tin-free alternatives. Borchers' "tin-free catalysts" can comply with regulations on organic tin and are designed with environmental considerations in mind, being free of tin.
