OPC UA is a standard protocol developed for industrial communication that enables data exchange across products and operating systems between production equipment from various manufacturers, ensuring interoperability through secure, robust, and reliable communication. Historically, production equipment often communicated using proprietary standards, making it challenging to integrate with IT systems, such as core systems (ERP). Therefore, OPC UA, which is versatile and highly flexible, is being adopted as the future communication protocol for industrial equipment in the context of digital transformation (DX). However, if proper intrusion prevention measures are not implemented between production equipment and OT=IT, it leaves open routes that could expand to the entire factory or supply chain.
