The presence of water in snow has a significant impact on its physical and mechanical properties. This measuring device, the snow moisture meter SE-WISe, provides highly accurate measurements and valuable information for various purposes, such as avalanche prediction, artificial snow analysis, and scientific research related to snow metamorphism, thanks to its compact design and ease of operation. Measurement principle: The snow moisture meter SE-WISe measures the snow moisture content within the sampler using a metal cylinder and electrodes. Based on the sensor's resonance frequency, it is converted to dielectric constant using a set function, and by combining the relative permittivity and snow density, the amount of liquid water is calculated. *Note that snow density needs to be calculated based on the snow within the sampler. This method has been validated against established calorimetric measurement techniques.
