Extendable filter system for machine tools - Special magnetic filter -
Magnet Filter MAGNOM (Magnum)
A filter system that is essential for the product accuracy and lifespan of machine tools. When used in conjunction with Magnum, it contributes to extending the lifespan of the filtration system and reducing environmental impact.
The "Magnum" has been proven to provide the following effects when adapted to machine tools: - By being installed alongside conventional filters, its lifespan can be extended. - Even when dirt has accumulated to the highest degree, the decrease in liquid delivery pressure remains at a very low level. - The range of particle sizes that can be removed spans from 1 micron to several thousand microns. - The usable life of the coolant can be significantly extended. - The lifespan of the machine itself can be prolonged. - Downtime for the machine can be reduced. - The costs of consumables, such as grinding discs, can be decreased. - The amount of filter waste is reduced, thereby decreasing environmental impact.

basic information
■Removal of fine particles is possible Magnum can capture fine magnetic particles (submicron: 10μm to 0.07μm) that cannot be removed by filters using filter paper or mesh, such as cartridge filters. ■No clogging Due to its special structure, where magnets are sandwiched between special plates, it does not block the flow path in the area where iron powder is captured. Therefore, it does not cause any clogging or pressure loss. Even when the capture capacity limit is reached, it does not hinder the operation of the device. ■Powerful capture ability The magnets enhance the magnetic flux due to their special arrangement, resulting in a significant difference in the ability to capture iron powder compared to simple magnets. Unlike conventional magnet filters, which can only capture contaminants from liquids close to the magnets, this structure greatly improves the cleanliness of the fluid. ■No re-release Captured contaminants are accumulated in a strong collection area separate from the flow path. The dangerous phenomenon that can occur with regular magnet filters, where the magnetic force weakens as the distance from the magnet increases, causing once-captured and solidified contaminants to re-release as a lump, does not occur at all.

Detailed information

The purpose of this test is to determine the total amount of chips that can be collected by the "Magnum." The "Magnum" will be installed downstream of the tank and upstream of the cartridge filter. The expected extension of the system's lifespan due to the "Magnum" filter will be measured by the difference in the total amount of accumulated dirt collected during benchmark tests and evaluations of the "Magnum" system. Cartridge Filter Alone: Initial flow rate 30 L/min Immediately after operation, the flow rate drastically decreased to 30-27 L/min (equivalent to a dirt accumulation of 200,000 mm³), and by the end of the test, it had dropped to 14 L/min (equivalent to a dirt accumulation of 615,000 mm³). "Magnum" Filter: Initial flow rate 30 L/min There was almost no change in flow rate until the dirt accumulation reached 1,445,000 mm³. After that, when the cartridge filter became full, at the end of the test, an additional 1,215,000 mm³ of dirt had been accumulated.
-
The trend of the change in delivery pressure is similar to that of the flow rate curve. However, the degree of change is greater than that of the flow rate, resulting in an observed pressure drop of approximately 80%. For reference, the change in flow rate was about 50%.
-
The degree of pressure change in the cartridge filter progressed consistently in all tests, as verified by "flow rate changes due to the accumulation of dirt" and "delivery pressure changes due to the accumulation of dirt." The pressure difference at the point when the filter needed to be replaced was approximately 3 bar (98 mV, 43.5 psi) (5 bar when the machine was stopped). At this time, the pressure fluctuation in the "Magnum" was below 0.15 bar (4.5 mV, 2 psi), which was measured when the "Magnum" had reached about 80% of the allowable dirt accumulation.
-
The "Magnum" filter system has the following two main benefits: 1) It raises the filter's "threshold (limit level)." 2) It reduces the degradation of the filter. Attached is a microscopic photo of debris taken from "Magnum" (with a 10-micron scale), which shows that the particle distribution is widely spread from approximately 1 micron to several thousand microns.
-
Many parts of the debris have clumped together or become tangled, and a typical example of this can be seen in the sample photo taken from the "Magnum" below.
