**Overview of Performance** Samsung Diamond Industrial initially utilized electric processing technologies such as discharge machining and laser machining to create mechanical tools for glass cutting, including flat panel displays (FPD) that used cemented carbide, achieving longer lifespans through the development of PCD (sintered diamond). However, there were challenges in responding to the thinning of glass and the improvement of cutting quality due to advancements in FPD. To address this, we advanced the discharge machining technology for PCD, establishing a manufacturing method for small-diameter (Φ2mm or less) wheel tools with sharp and precise edges, as well as high-straightness PCD small-diameter pins (Φ0.8mm or less) that serve as rotating axes, enabling production at a level of tens of thousands of units per month. Furthermore, in addition to this high-precision discharge machining technology, we developed new products such as new tools and industrial components by implementing new techniques in brazing and polishing. We provide products with fine and complex structures and shapes that were previously considered difficult to produce industrially with PCD, as well as items with high precision and high-quality surface conditions (detailed information), engaging in excellent manufacturing based on technological development.

[Case Studies of Problem Discovery and Resolution] ■ Case 1 (Major Precision Parts Manufacturer) In response to quality deterioration due to the aging of cutting edges in the precision parts cutting process, we conducted a root cause analysis of the quality decline and created an improvement proposal report, which was implemented. This led to an improvement in the quality and stabilization of the customer's products, achieving optimization of the customer's production process. ■ Case 2 (Major Parts Processing Manufacturer) We proposed PCD material parts and improved processing methods to customers using carbide material mold punch parts. This resulted in achieving a continuous production quantity over ten times that of before the proposal! We stabilized product quality and significantly reduced the time for regrinding and setup changeover tasks. ■ Case 3 (Equipment Manufacturer) For expensive unit parts that were being used as disposable within equipment components, we leveraged our proposal capabilities and processing technology to suggest a partial exchangeable solution. This simplified the exchange process and reduced part costs, contributing to increased production numbers and reduced manufacturing costs.
Detailed information
-
【Cutter (Medical Equipment Market, etc.)】 We have developed processing capabilities to accurately reproduce edge radii of PCD and carbide from R10 to R25µm, precisely controlling the angle formed by the tip slope and the edge radius according to processing purposes. Our products, available in various lengths and widths, ensure a stable processing result and usability management while maintaining an appropriate balance between processability and lifespan.
-
Stylus: Measurement Terminal (Measurement Equipment Market) By precisely integrating the spherical tip and shaft using PCD material, we manufacture a fine shaft measurement terminal (tip diameter 0.25mm) that has no stress deformation, maintaining high precision and expanding the range of measurement targets, such as the surface shape of hard ceramics and the inner walls of fine holes with an inner diameter of 0.4mm or less.
-
【Nozzle (Electronic Components Market)】 We provide products with high-precision PCD of a precise shape for the inner wall of nozzles that eject liquids containing high-hardness fillers, and for the tip of pickup suction nozzles for hard material small chips, with a hole diameter of 0.25mm and coaxiality of 3µm or less, which can extend stable usage time.
-
【Special-shaped mold components and pickup nozzles (electronic components market)】 To perform precision machining of polygons, including corner radii, for high-strength joints of dissimilar materials, we have equipped our electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines with high-precision control functions for position, angle, and posture. This allows for external machining in a single chuck setup, ensuring product offerings that guarantee machining accuracy and high-precision setting positions on the equipment side for mold punches with PCD tips and suction nozzles for hard chips, which were previously difficult to achieve.
-
Support blade for centerless grinding (machining market) We provide a blade with a wedge-connected structure using PCD at the tip of the support blade for centerless grinders, which typically use carbide materials. This improves processing stability and extends the lifespan to over 10 times that of carbide materials, offering blades with no deformation even at widths of 0.3mm or less.
