If contamination is discovered, measures such as decontamination are to be taken based on the judgment of the prefectural governor, in order to prevent harm to human health. **Flow of Soil Contamination Investigation** Soil contamination investigations must be conducted by designated investigation agencies. The investigation is divided into phases 1, 2, 3, and 4, and it is mandatory to report the results to the prefectural governor.
