The Consumer Affairs Agency and the National Consumer Affairs Center have announced the results of their investigation into commercially available hypochlorous acid water and issued warnings on their website. You can use hypochlorous acid water with the JSA compliance certification mark (clearly marked as JSA-S1012) with confidence. Regarding the reliability of the certification mark, several private organizations seem to issue certification marks for hypochlorous acid water; however, the only standard issued with government involvement is the standard "JSA-S1012:2022 Hypochlorous Acid Molecular Aqueous Solution," published in March 2022 by the Japan Standards Association (JSA), an organization under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, which establishes strict standards with quantifiable criteria. The HCIA (Hypochlorous Acid Industry Association) is the only organization that conducts JSA standard compliance certification for hypochlorous acid water. As the developer of the JSA standard, HCIA collaborates with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to assist in the establishment of standards by the Japan Standards Association (JSA) and issues certification marks only to hypochlorous acid water that meets the standards according to the rules of the standard.

The Japan Hypochlorous Acid Chemical Industry Association, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, will create the "JSA Standard" to certify the safety of hypochlorous acid water products in Japan.
