On November 25, 2023, a complex facility that combines a library, a community exchange center, and a childcare exchange center opened in Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture. Nitto Seiko Co., a local company, donated a train-shaped picture book storage shelf to the Ayabe City Library, which has been newly renovated and reopened within Ayaterrace. Tokihasan Industries assisted in the design, planning, and manufacturing of this train-shaped picture book storage shelf.

【 Design 】 We started with the idea from Nitto Seiko Co., Ltd. of being "loved by the local community, allowing children to enjoy and interact with picture books." After several meetings with Nitto Seiko Co., Ltd. and Ayabe City Library, we decided to adopt motifs of animals and locomotives that children love. We realized the ideal expression using our technology "F3," which allows for free-form processing of wooden panels and printing on the panel surface. 【 Design and Technology 】 The design and planning focus on the library, which is used by many children. To ensure safety, we have employed our unique technology "Farnu" for the partition boards and the animal shapes that children might touch. Due to its properties, Farnu also serves as a cushioning material, preventing the risk of injury from collisions and protecting against sharp edges when storing picture books. Additionally, while furniture edges typically tend to peel or splinter over time, Farnu has characteristics that make it resistant to peeling and damage due to its unique molding method, ensuring safety and longevity.
