The type of black rubber can be identified using the FT-IR/ATR method.
Black rubber containing carbon black cannot be analyzed using FT-IR/transmission method due to its absorption of infrared light. By using the ATR method with a germanium prism, FT-IR spectra can be obtained, allowing for the identification of the type of black rubber.

basic information
Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR Measurement) The attenuated total reflectance method is a type of FT-IR method used to analyze the chemical composition of sample surfaces. 1. Principle of Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR Measurement) When infrared light is totally reflected by bringing a prism into contact with the sample, a portion of the infrared light slightly penetrates the sample side, becoming a special type of light known as an evanescent wave. This evanescent wave interacts with the molecules in the sample, causing specific wavelengths of light to be absorbed. By detecting the totally reflected infrared light, it is possible to analyze the chemical composition of the sample surface from the absorbed wavelength information. 2. Features of Attenuated Total Reflectance (ATR Measurement) Simple operation: Minimal sample pretreatment is required. Non-destructive testing: Analysis can be performed without damaging the sample. Surface analysis: Only information from the sample surface can be obtained, allowing for the analysis of the chemical composition of black rubber, which cannot be analyzed using transmission methods. High sensitivity: Even trace amounts of substances can be detected.
