A proposal for flywheel energy storage that resolves all weaknesses. Energy storage facilities that stabilize solar and wind power, and EV fast charging stations that are not affected by outside temperatures!
Flywheel energy storage systems mostly used magnetic bearings. As a result, scaling up was difficult, and the associated equipment, including cooling systems and touchdown bearings for emergency stops, was very expensive, making it unable to compete with secondary batteries. The proposed flywheel energy storage system achieves overwhelming low costs by using our ADB (Autonomous Distributed Rolling Bearings) as low-cost, highly durable bearings in a vacuum. Additionally, by separating the motor for power generation/storage into a rotor inside the vacuum chamber and a stator outside, self-discharge is nearly zero, and the quantity can be adjusted according to demand, allowing for arbitrary changes in power and energy. Furthermore, the chamber that supports the bearings with a core pillar significantly reduces size and weight.

Detailed information
-
A flywheel demo unit removed from the chamber. The shaft that penetrates through the center is the core pillar that secures the inner race of the bearing. The rotor in the foreground is a magnetic coupling here. The discs at both ends are plates that secure the shaft to the glass chamber, and since the bearing ADB has self-aligning properties, the installation can be very rough and still be acceptable.

For example, in the case of EV fast charging stations, a large amount of power is required for short charging times of the latest EVs, but this frequency is likely to be very rare. Additionally, while the required amount of electricity varies based on average usage, forecasting this is also challenging. This system allows for efficient investment by enabling adjustments to power based on the number of stators and to energy capacity based on the number of flywheels, through additions and repurposing.
