Brush DC motors mechanically use a commutator to reverse the polarity, but they have the drawback of commutator wear, which cannot be overcome in terms of longevity. Brushless DC motors, instead of having brushes and commutators, operate using an electronic mechanism with a drive circuit. By sequentially connecting semiconductor switches to create a rotating magnetic field, the motor can be rotated, allowing for the removal of brushes and commutators, which could be a disadvantage. This has enabled brushless motors to achieve a lifespan that is incomparable to that of mechanical commutators.
