[Analysis Case] Structural Analysis of Multilayer Films (Raman Spectroscopy)
We will introduce a case study of structural analysis of multilayer films using Raman imaging.
Films used in electronic devices and food packaging have a multilayer structure with multiple layers stacked to provide functions such as gas barrier properties and flexibility. Raman spectroscopy is effective for understanding the composition of each layer of the film. Here, we present a case study of structural analysis of multilayer films using Raman imaging. basic information
**Analysis Results** Eleven layers were confirmed from the optical images and Raman images, and from the Raman spectra of each layer, it was found that A, E, K are polyethylene terephthalate (PET), B, D, F, J are polyurethane (PU), C, I are polypropylene (PP), and G, H are polyethylene (PE). Additionally, based on the peak intensities around 2880 cm-1 (derived from CH2 asymmetric stretching) and around 2850 cm-1 (derived from CH2 symmetric stretching), G was identified as high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and H as low-density polyethylene (LDPE). **Summary** Raman imaging allows for the visualization of the structure of multilayer films and can clearly identify the composition of layers down to approximately 1 μm.
