[Minister of the Environment Award] Prevention of Soil Erosion on Land Surfaces Using Soil Algae - BSC Method
A construction method that prevents surface erosion without the need for slope shaping. In recent years, efforts towards the SDGs and the conservation of the natural environment have become the responsibility of businesses.
BSC refers to a sheet-like colony of soil microorganisms formed by soil fungi, soil algae, lichens, and mosses that intertwine soil particles and clumps on the surface. BSC is a natural phenomenon observed at the beginning of vegetation succession and has the effect of preventing surface erosion. By promoting the early formation of BSC, it serves as an erosion control measure that utilizes natural phenomena and encourages vegetation formation through natural invasion. ■ Four Features of BSC Method 1. Simple and can be implemented without slope shaping 2. Promotes vegetation succession according to the surrounding environment 3. Avoids environmental impacts on native species, etc. 4. Prevents the expansion of erosion from rills For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

We have been aiming to become a specialized manufacturer of microalgae for over 40 years, continuing research and product development in partnership with various universities and research institutions both in Japan and abroad. In recent years, large-scale natural disasters occurring globally, soil and ocean pollution due to development, and the relentless progression of global warming have made the destruction of nature and the environment increasingly severe on a global scale. Through our encounter with Japan Engineering Co., Ltd., we have focused our research on the theme of "preventing sediment runoff using microalgae," and finally, in 2018, we co-developed the "BSC (Biological Soil Crust) method." The "BSC method" is the world's first groundbreaking technique that utilizes soil algae to prevent soil erosion and promote natural infiltration. It has been recognized as an environmentally friendly material that can be used even in national parks, and it has been registered in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's new technology development system, accumulating construction results in various locations. In today's world, where sediment disasters frequently occur, we are confident that the "BSC method" can contribute to disaster prevention and mitigation. We will continue to contribute to "human health" and "the Earth's environment" through microalgae.
