Brush DC motors mechanically use a commutator to reverse polarity, but they have the drawback of commutator wear, which prevents them from achieving long lifespan. Brushless DC motors, instead of having brushes and commutators, operate using an electronic mechanism driven by circuits. By sequentially connecting semiconductor switches to create a rotating magnetic field, they can eliminate the brushes and commutators that could be considered disadvantages. This results in brushless motors achieving a lifespan that is incomparable to that of mechanical commutators.
