Comparison with gamma rays, X-rays, and heavy ion beams! Exceptional "mutation" induction power that brings out the potential of cells.
Gamma rays, X-rays, and heavy ion beams cause base damage and cluster damage by cutting single strands of DNA. Highly penetrating neutron beams induce multiple double-strand breaks in DNA, efficiently triggering small to large-scale mutations. According to probability theory, a certain effect from irradiation will always occur, significantly shortening the time required to create new varieties. [Overview] ■ Neutron beams: Mainly cause multiple double-strand breaks ■ Gamma rays and X-rays: Mainly cause base damage ■ Heavy ion beams: Cause cluster damage *For more details, please feel free to contact us.

Company information
Starting as a private company initiated by local volunteers under the proposal of the Ibaraki University Graduate School of Science and Engineering, we aim to develop a new technological domain that is globally competitive through collaboration between radiation-related facilities concentrated in Ibaraki Prefecture and the vibrant agriculture in the region. Our goal is to commercialize the use of neutrons for crop improvement, which, while considered effective among experts, had not been socially implemented, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society. We have conducted repeated demonstration experiments, enabling the generation of dynamic and large quantities of mutants that were previously unattainable. In 2020, we patented the technology for generating mutagens using neutrons, and we are currently providing solutions not only for crop improvement in agriculture but also as a useful technology for the development of industrial microorganisms, catering to companies and research institutions engaged in biological breeding and variety development.
