Understanding the region through landscape research and considering the creation of a livable town.
Social Infrastructure (Saitama University Research Seed Collection 2025-27 p.7)
Keywords: Landscape Engineering, Landscape Town Development
We are engaged in a wide range of research themes related to how humans perceive the environment, including streetscape, urban green spaces and waterfront landscapes, and nighttime lighting environments. Through the research results related to landscapes, we propose new approaches to urban development. Our landscape analysis features research methods such as analyzing pedestrian behavior in public spaces, gaze analysis in traffic behavior, and evaluating streetscapes recreated in VR through virtual walking. In the practice of regional landscape creation, we belong to the urban development NPO Saitama and collaborate with Saitama Prefecture, various municipalities, and citizen groups to participate in landscape town development activities in each region.

Applications/Examples of results
【Appeal Points to the Industry】 ● While the current main research fields are largely within Saitama Prefecture, we conduct investigations, evaluations, and proposals for landscape town planning that take into account the unique characteristics of each region's landscape challenges. 【Examples of Practical Application, Utilization, and Implementation】 ● Collaboration with citizen groups for the investigation, analysis, and compilation of proposals regarding the landscape resources and slope forest conservation in the Minuma rice field area of Saitama City (landscape and vision for the future). ● Consideration of an environmentally friendly natural burial that preserves the ecological characteristics of slope green spaces almost intact. Surveys were conducted to assess public acceptance and economic evaluation of proposals with varying conditions. ● Collaboration with a bus company: Analyzing the relationship between bus drivers' safety confirmation behaviors and gaze movements to consider measures for safe driving. ● Research on environmental green space evaluation contributing to the enhancement of green infrastructure and promotion of nature-compatible sites (economic value assessment of natural restoration activities in the Metropolitan Expressway biotope in collaboration with Metropolitan Expressway Company Limited).
