Aiming for rational design and maintenance management of bridges.
Social Infrastructure (Saitama University Research Seed Collection 2025-27 p.16)
Keywords: Structural analysis, bridge design, seismic isolation bearings, reliability design, evaluation of existing bridges.
We are conducting research on the following topics related to bridges: (1) Research on bridge design methods (2) Research on rational decision-making methods for safety factors in bridge design (3) Evaluation of the safety of existing bridges and examination of the necessary safety levels (4) Research on redundancy and vulnerability for bridge maintenance management (5) Development of seismic design models for rubber bearings used in bridges and research on temperature dependence To the general public, bridges may seem to undergo little change, but the materials used, design methods, structural forms, and maintenance management techniques have been rapidly evolving since the 2000s. In terms of materials, high-performance steel and carbon fiber reinforced plastics have started to be used. Moreover, domestic bridge design methods are currently in a state of transition. Therefore, we are focusing our research on the development of next-generation design methods and maintenance management techniques.
