Keywords: Environmental vibration, residential performance, vibration sensation, vibration prediction, vibration countermeasures.
Buildings that serve as homes or places for work and study are designed and constructed to meet various performance requirements, such as safety against natural disasters like earthquakes and typhoons, and durability for long-term use. Creating a comfortable and healthy living environment within the building is also one of these performance requirements. Unlike safety and durability, the performance of a building is directly linked to daily life, making the living environment a more important aspect than many might imagine. In our research laboratory, we conduct various studies on environmental vibrations, which are elements related to the living environment. For example, we investigate what size and characteristics of vibrations could potentially pose problems in a living environment by conducting experiments that replicate various vibrations within actual buildings using vibration testing machines. Additionally, since environmental vibrations often occur simultaneously with noise, we are also examining the complex effects of both environmental vibrations and noise on residents by conducting experiments that generate them at the same time.
