【Case Study of Crystal Analysis Device】Observation of Phase Separation and Remixing of Mixed Solutions
A mixed solution that mixes more as it cools! It has been confirmed that it can also be used to determine the critical temperature in mixed solutions.
We would like to introduce a case study on the use of the crystallization device "Crystal16." We are considering a method to apply this device to observe the phase separation and re-mixing behavior of mixed solutions. Two types of stirring mechanisms, Bottom Stirrer and Top Stirrer, can be used. When using the Top Stirrer, it was confirmed that the liquid surface can be stirred with sufficient strength, ensuring that the contents of the vial are uniformly mixed and suspended. As the name suggests, this product's main application is to obtain solubility curves through crystallization operations of solids; however, it has also been confirmed that it can be used to determine the critical temperature in mixed solutions. [Background] - In the case of non-miscible mixed solutions, it is generally observed that increasing the temperature makes them easier to mix, while lowering the temperature leads to phase separation. - On the other hand, some mixed solutions become mixed when the temperature is lowered and undergo phase separation as the temperature rises. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.

basic information
【Results】 - The solution is mixed at a transmittance of 100%, while phase separation occurs at transmittance below 100%, resulting in a suspended state due to stirring. - It was recorded that mixing and phase separation occur repeatedly with temperature increases and decreases. - When plotting the concentration of hexanol in the vial against this phase separation temperature, a graph with a negative slope was obtained. - The negative slope indicates that the solubility of hexanol decreases with increasing temperature. - The temperature at which phase separation begins is referred to as the critical temperature; in this experiment, using Crystal16, we successfully measured the critical temperature of the mixed solution consisting of two types of liquids rapidly. *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*
