From national treasures and important cultural properties to paintings and ukiyo-e, the production of reproductions that exemplify the essence of art printing.
At San Em Color, which is committed to fine art printing, we also focus on the production of reproductions. Reproductions are created for the purpose of allowing people to easily appreciate expensive artworks at home or to display copies of cultural properties that are prone to damage. Due to the characteristics of Kyoto, we often engage in the reproduction of historically significant cultural properties, and we have produced many reproductions that are displayed in place of original works at famous shrines, temples, and museums.

basic information
We propose the most suitable techniques according to the techniques and texture of the artwork. In addition to color reproduction, one of the more challenging aspects of reproducing paintings is capturing the authentic texture and details of the original. In the case of Japanese paintings, this includes the raised and peeling areas of gofun, the granular texture of mineral pigments, the fiber texture of washi paper, and the use of gold leaf and gold paint. Even if these are scanned and printed as flat images, they cannot achieve the authenticity of the original. At San Emu Color, which possesses diverse techniques, we combine various methods to propose the optimal print for each artwork.

The "Riken Myogo" replica The "Riken Myogo," housed at Hyakumanben Chionji in Kyoto, is a very large hanging scroll said to have been bestowed upon the eighth generation Zen Master Kuen by Emperor Go-Daigo. Due to concerns about deterioration, it could only be displayed during limited ceremonies. However, in response to the desire to display the Riken Myogo, which is believed to have the power to ward off epidemics, a replica was created. After being precisely photographed using a gigapixel art scanner, the surface wear and texture were reproduced in the print. The replica was crafted to full size while being proofread against the original.

Toyohara Kunichika "Kabuki's Eighteen Best: Kanjincho, Musashibo Benkei, Ichikawa Danjuro" The original form of "Kanjincho" was performed by the first Ichikawa Danjuro, but it was completed as a performance by the seventh Ichikawa Danjuro at the Kawarazaki Theatre in 1840. Yoshitsune was played by the eighth Danjuro, his eldest son. While fleeing from Yoritomo, Yoshitsune and his companions were captured at the Ataka barrier. Benkei performs the act of striking his lord, Yoshitsune, while the barrier guard, Togashi, recognizes them but lets them go, making it a popular performance.
