The skin has a three-layer structure consisting of the "epidermis," "dermis," and "subcutaneous tissue," starting from the surface. The outermost layer is the "epidermis," where new cells are constantly being produced. After the cells in the basal layer divide, they move upward while growing, gradually digesting their contents until they reach the surface, where the remaining lipid membrane becomes dead skin cells that flake off.
