Introduction of a rapid evaluation method for total organic fluorine (TOF) using a combustion IC system.

This document introduces a new total organic fluorine (TOF) analytical method for efficiently screening for PFAS contained in food contact materials (FCM) such as food packaging and cooking containers. Due to their high persistence and toxicity, several states in the U.S. are strengthening regulations on PFAS in food packaging, creating a demand for rapid and reliable assessment methods. This technology utilizes the Thermo Scientific Cindion combustion IC system to measure total fluorine (TF) and inorganic fluorine (TIF) through combustion-ion chromatography (C-IC), calculating TOF from the difference. The new system incorporates a z-fold combustion tube that enhances combustion efficiency and control through a single software, achieving reduced analysis time and improved operability. It provides reproducible results compared to conventional methods, offering an effective assessment tool for compliance with PFAS regulations. *This is an English document.*
