Chromolith coated with OA−5000
The "Monolithic ODS Column Chromolith RP-18" manufactured by MERCK is a ligand-exchange type column for optical isomer separation, coated with the chiral selector SUMICHIRAL OA-5000. Monolithic HPLC columns use a cylindrical silica continuum instead of a 3-5 μm silica gel support. This silica continuum consists of a structure of macropores (approximately 2 μm) and mesopores (approximately 13 nm), with a high porosity of about 80%. By using this monolithic column as the substrate for the stationary phase of a chiral column, excellent characteristics can be achieved.

Applications/Examples of results
It demonstrates excellent separation for compounds such as amino acids and oxycarboxylic acids. Compounds that are difficult to detect with UV detectors, such as valine, can be detected at 254 nm. It is effective for compounds like β-amino acids and oxycarboxylic acids. <Features> - The theoretical plate number has improved to more than 1.5 times that of conventional products (equivalent to a particle size of 3.5 particle-filled columns). - The column pressure is less than one-third that of conventional products, allowing for increased flow rates during measurement. - Column connections are possible up to a length of about 50 cm. - It is optimal for analyzing samples with strong retention compared to conventional products (such as dicarboxylic acids).
