Lithium-ion batteries charge and discharge. It is also well-known that they generate heat, which can lead to thermal runaway accidents due to this heat generation. The positive and negative electrodes during charging and discharging are thought to undergo endothermic reactions that are mutually opposing, stemming from the reversible intercalation reactions.
