When metal reacts with extreme pressure additives, it forms a film that combines a smooth surface with lubricity, resulting in the rough surface of the metal being transformed into a "low melting point intermetallic compound," making it smooth. This film remains on the metal surface even when the oil is gone, maintaining lubricity. This is the lubrication mechanism.
