The "shank-mounted thread cutting end mill" is used when the diameter of the internal thread being processed is not very large, and the thread cutting end mill is relatively small in diameter.
Its usage is fundamentally the same as that of a large diameter thread cutting end mill.
By feeding the workpiece one lead in the axial direction for each rotation of the workpiece, or having the end mill make 1.1 to 1.2 rotations around the inner diameter of the workpiece, cutting continues until a complete internal thread is processed. This results in shorter processing times and greater accuracy compared to thread cutting with a lathe.
