Prevention of red rust and water leakage in the hot water piping of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the UK.

Case study of introducing NMR pipe protectors for preventing red rust and extending the lifespan of hotel hot water piping.

The Mandarin Oriental Hotel is a prestigious five-star hotel located in London. Due to the occurrence of red rust corrosion issues in the hot water supply piping (SGP) at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel and concerns about leaks, two units of the red rust prevention and leak prevention device "NMR Pipe Protector" PT-75DS were installed at the header section of the circulating hot water supply piping. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the iron content in the water within the hot water supply piping was 13.35 mg/l, indicating significant progression of red rust corrosion. Four weeks after installation, the iron content in the hot water supply piping decreased to 0.0043 mg/l, and further, five weeks after installation, it dropped to below 0.004 mg/l. This demonstrated that the progression of red rust in the hot water supply piping was completely halted by the NMR Pipe Protector, and the existing red rust transformed into insoluble black rust with a volume reduction to one-tenth. It has been verified that if the Mandarin Oriental Hotel continues to use the NMR Pipe Protector, all red rust in the hot water supply piping will change to black rust, and the cost will be less than one-fifth of the piping replacement work, allowing the piping to be extended for the lifespan of the building. Naturally, leaks will be completely prevented thereafter.

Resolving the red rust and leakage issues in the water supply and hot water piping at the Marriott Hotel in the UK.

Case studies of introducing NMR pipe protectors for preventing red rust and extending the lifespan of hotel water supply and hot water piping.

The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel, part of the world's largest five-star hotel chain, the Marriott Group, was built in 1878 and has 160 rooms. Due to the use of galvanized steel pipes for the hot water and water supply plumbing in the Marriott Hotel, very high iron levels were detected: 6 mg/l from the hot water plumbing and 3.46 mg/l from the water supply plumbing before the installation of the NMR pipe protector. The deterioration of red rust in the pipes was serious, including the presence of red water, raising concerns about future leaks. To eliminate the red water from the water supply and hot water plumbing, prevent red rust deterioration, and extend the life of the pipes, NMR pipe protectors were installed in both the water supply and hot water plumbing. Thirteen days after installation, the hot water and water supply (nighttime stagnant water) samples taken first thing in the morning were both clear, and the iron levels in the water had dropped to 0.007 mg/l, completely eliminating the red water. The reduction in iron levels prevented the formation of new red rust, and it was proven that the existing red rust in the pipes had transformed into a non-soluble volume of 1/10 of inert black rust. As a result, the formation of new red rust in the pipes was prevented, and the transformation of existing red rust into black rust demonstrated the effectiveness of the NMR pipe protector in preventing red rust and extending the life of the plumbing.

Millennium Hotel in the UK resolves issues of red rust and water leakage in the air conditioning hot and cold water piping.

Case study of the introduction of NMR pipe protectors for preventing red rust and extending the life of hotel water supply piping.

The Millennium Hotel London Mayfair is a historic building located in the heart of London, overlooking Grosvenor Square, which was once the residence of the Duchess of Kendal in the 18th century. To address the issues of red rust and leakage in the air conditioning hot water piping, the "NMR Pipe Protector," a rust prevention and pipe longevity device that does not require pipe removal or water shutdown during installation, was installed. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the iron content due to red rust in the air conditioning hot water piping was very high at 15.7 mg/l, indicating significant deterioration from red rust and raising concerns about leakage. To prevent this red rust and leakage, the "NMR Pipe Protector" was introduced. Six weeks after the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, the test results for the air conditioning hot water showed a significant reduction in iron content to 0.157 mg/l, completely preventing new red rust in the air conditioning cold and hot water piping, and it was proven that the existing red rust had transformed into black rust, which is insoluble in water and has a volume one-tenth that of red rust. If the NMR Pipe Protector continues to be used, all red rust in the piping will transform into black rust, preventing external corrosion and leakage, thereby extending the lifespan of the building.

[NMR Pipe Protector Verification Results] Teikoku Theatre Building

The red rust issue in the piping that occurred 21 years ago has been completely resolved! No leaks have occurred, and the piping condition has been maintained in good shape.

The heat source equipment of the Imperial Theatre uses steam boilers and turbo chillers, and since the theatre dislikes noise, the heat source is installed six floors underground. Additionally, most of the piping is located within concrete, making pipe renewal work extremely difficult. To improve the current situation where significant deterioration due to red rust in the piping has progressed after 34 years since its construction in 2000, the "NMR Pipe Protector" was installed to convert red rust to black rust and rehabilitate the piping. As of 2021, 21 years later, all issues related to red rust in the piping have been resolved, and there is almost no iron content from red rust in the circulating air conditioning chilled and hot water. Since the installation of this product, there has been no leakage at all, maintaining an extremely good condition of the piping. 【Effects After Installation】 ■ All issues related to red rust in the piping that existed 21 years ago have been resolved. ■ There is almost no iron content from red rust in the circulating air conditioning chilled and hot water. ■ There has been no leakage at all, maintaining an extremely good condition of the piping. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

[NMR Pipe Protector Verification Results] St. Ignatius Church

A case where it was confirmed that the red rust inside the piping is in a good condition and not dissolving in water!

St. Ignatius Church, also known as the Catholic Kojimachi Church, is a historic church adjacent to Sophia University that has existed since before the war. Four years ago, it was found that the red rust deterioration in the air conditioning chilled and hot water piping, which is 19 years old, was progressing. Therefore, an evaluation of the rust prevention effect of the "NMR Pipe Protector," a red rust prevention extension device, was conducted. Before the installation of the NMR Pipe Protector, a sample of the circulating chilled and hot water was taken, revealing that the water was brownish in color. Water quality testing detected a total iron concentration of 240 mg/l, indicating significant progression of red rust corrosion within the piping. After installing the NMR Pipe Protector, a water sample was tested two weeks later, showing that the water had become almost clear, with the total iron concentration due to red rust reduced to 2.7 mg/l, a significant decrease. At the same time that the progression of red rust was halted, the surface red rust within the chilled and hot water piping and the red rust in the water transformed into inert black rust that does not dissolve in water. This provided verification of the rust prevention effect of the NMR Pipe Protector within the chilled and hot water piping. This result was featured in an article published on July 18, 2018, in issue 2737 of "Air Conditioning Times," which reported on the verification of the rust prevention effect of the NMR Pipe Protector at St. Ignatius Church.

[NMR Pipe Protector Verification Results] BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation)

Verification of rust prevention effects in the air conditioning piping of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation)! Preventing the occurrence of new red rust and converting existing red rust to black rust, demonstrating the extension of piping lifespan.

At the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), which has been in operation for 53 years, the use of SGP pipes in the cooling water piping has led to frequent leaks and a very serious state of red rust deterioration in the piping. To prevent leaks caused by red rust deterioration and to extend the life of the piping, four "NMR Pipe Protectors" were installed in the cooling water systems of the Main Block Building and Stage 5 Building. In the Main Block Building, the iron content in the water before the installation of the product was 5.53 mg/l, but it significantly decreased to 0.048 mg/l after 32 days of installation, and further decreased to 0.06 mg/l after 57 days. In Stage 5 Building, the iron content in the water before installation was 3.8 mg/l, which decreased to 0.063 mg/l after 32 days and to 0.008 mg/l after 57 days. Additionally, there have been no occurrences of leaks after installation. The prevention of new red rust formation and the transformation of existing red rust in the piping to insoluble black rust in the water have resulted in a reduction of iron content, demonstrating that this cooling water piping can be extended to the lifespan of the building. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*
