[NMR Pipe Protector Verification Results] Moseley Hospital (NHS)

Prevent red rust and leaks in the hot water piping of Moseley Hospital!

Moseley Hospital has two independent hot water systems: one connected to the storage tank and the other connected to the hot water header, with galvanized steel pipes used in the hot water piping. As a result, NMR pipe protectors were installed in the storage tank piping and the hot water header piping to prevent red rust corrosion and leaks in both hot water systems. Water samples were taken from the hot water piping at five locations, and the average iron content in the water was calculated. Before the installation of the NMR pipe protectors, the average value was 13.824 mg/l. After 15 weeks of installation, it decreased to 1.3882 mg/l; after 31 weeks, it further decreased to 0.4762 mg/l; and after 49 weeks, it reached 0.3428 mg/l, showing a significant reduction. This result demonstrated that the NMR pipe protectors prevented the formation of new red rust within the pipes and reduced existing red rust to black rust, which is insoluble in water and has a volume that is one-tenth of that of red rust. It has been proven that by continuing to install NMR pipe protectors, the hot water piping will transform 100% of the red rust within the pipes into black rust, thereby extending the lifespan of the building.

Effect of the calcium scale solidification adhesion prevention device "Non-Scaler"

The calcium scale prevention device "Non-Scaler" solves the calcium scaling problem in hot water boilers without using ion exchange resins or strong alkaline agents.

Calcium scale inevitably adheres to the interior of hot water boilers and similar equipment. To reduce the adhesion of calcium scale, traditionally, ion exchange resins have been used to soften the water by removing calcium ions before producing hot water in the boiler. The residual calcium in the water crystallizes as insoluble calcium carbonate within the boiler and adheres to it. Traditionally, strong alkaline agents were added to the boiler to prevent the formation reaction of calcium carbonate. However, strong alkaline hot water is highly corrosive to metals, leading to corrosion and deterioration of the boiler itself, internal piping, and hot water piping, which shortens the lifespan of the boiler and connected piping systems to around 10 years. The calcium scale prevention device "Non-Scaler" reacts the calcium in the water with free carbon dioxide within the Non-Scaler, forcibly transforming it into fine particles of calcium carbonate that are dispersed and flow in the water. Once calcium carbonate is converted into fine particles, it remains unchanged even under the high temperature and pressure conditions inside the boiler, flowing in its particulate state. Additionally, the effects of corrosion and deterioration caused by strong alkaline agents are eliminated, making it possible to extend the lifespan of the boiler and hot water piping by more than double.

Non-Scaler Implementation Case: Major Food Factory

A case of preventing flow reduction due to calcium buildup in the secondary side valve of the warm water piping.

**Effects After Installing the Non-Scaler** - Eliminated the decrease in flow rate caused by calcium crystals - Both flow rate and temperature remain stable even after 4 months - No need for disassembly cleaning, significantly reducing maintenance time and burden At our factory, we used groundwater containing a high level of calcium (180 mg/L), which made it easy for calcium scale to adhere inside the valves, frequently causing a decrease in flow rate. As a countermeasure, we introduced a coil electromagnet device two years ago, but there was hardly any observed effect in preventing scale. Therefore, we newly installed a "Non-Scaler," and clear improvement effects were confirmed. Before installation, due to the decrease in flow rate and the accompanying drop in temperature, we had to perform disassembly cleaning of the valve plates approximately every 4 months, which took about 36 hours each time. However, after the introduction of the Non-Scaler, even after 4 months, there were no issues with the decrease in flow rate or temperature, and disassembly cleaning of the valves became unnecessary. Current maintenance now only involves lightly tapping the outside with a rubber hammer to remove softened deposits, leading to a significant reduction in work time. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

[Non-Scaler Introduction Case] Major Chemical Plant B

A case of preventing calcium deposition in the piping of a cooling water line at a chemical plant.

**Effects After Installing the Non-Scaler** - Acid cleaning twice a year is no longer necessary, maintaining productivity without line stoppages. - Significant reduction in cleaning and maintenance costs as well as labor expenses. - Contributes to the longevity of piping equipment. In our factory, we use groundwater as cooling water, which has caused calcium carbonate scale (hard crystals) to adhere to the piping on the secondary side of the pump, necessitating acid cleaning twice a year. During this acid cleaning process, the factory line had to be temporarily halted, leading to significant economic losses due to production stoppages. To address this issue, a "Non-Scaler" was installed on the secondary side of the pump piping. Before installation, as seen in the photos, thick white scale was heavily adhered inside the piping, making removal extremely difficult. However, six months after the installation of the Non-Scaler, there was almost no scale adhesion observed inside the piping, and the effects were clearly evident, allowing for substantial cost reductions. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.*

[Case Study of Pipe Protector] St. Thomas Hospital and Coil-Type Electromagnetic Device

Unexpected Facts about Coil-Type Electromagnetic Devices and Examples of Pipe Protectors and Non-Scalers

1. Regarding the effectiveness of rust prevention (anti-corrosion) In the UK, coil-type electromagnetic devices are primarily used as a measure against calcium scale, and their effectiveness in preventing red rust has not been recognized. In fact, at St. Thomas' Hospital, famous for Florence Nightingale and where the NHS headquarters is located, this device was introduced into the hot water piping, but it showed no anti-corrosion effect, and red rust deterioration was progressing. As a result, an NMR pipe protector was installed in 2005. Before installation, the hot water contained a high concentration of iron ions, but after one month, the concentration significantly decreased, halting the progression of red rust deterioration and confirming a change to insoluble black rust. Although coil-type electromagnetic devices are also sold domestically, please be aware that their effectiveness against red rust has not been confirmed. 2. Regarding the effectiveness of calcium scale prevention Coil-type electromagnetic devices are also sold domestically as scale prevention devices, but in a major food factory where they were introduced, they failed to prevent scale adhesion within the pumps. As a result, a non-scaler was adopted, completely preventing adhesion. Disassembly and cleaning, which were previously required every few months, are no longer necessary. If you have not achieved results with coil-type devices, please consider introducing a non-scaler.
