However, when a topcoat is applied over cationic paint, the adhesion is dominated by the cationic layer, which is prone to cracking. If the cationic coating cracks or peels, the topcoat may also tear, and in this case, it will not be covered by warranty. Using a thin pre-coat film with salt damage resistance reduces the risk, but the adhesion will still be weaker compared to painting directly on aluminum or copper.
