BN Clean is a bio-agent developed to improve the sanitary environment of water areas that are familiar to us, such as kitchens and toilets. Its main component is a safe and harmless beneficial microorganism (BN bacteria) that decomposes bad odors and grease, making it gentle on both humans and the environment, allowing for safe use.
This unique strain of microorganism was independently discovered and researched by Meiji Co., Ltd. It was found in the late 1980s at the Pharmaceutical Research Institute of Meiji Seika Co., Ltd. (at the time) in Yokohama. Originally, research and development began for applications in pharmaceuticals, but as investigations progressed, it was found to have excellent grease-decomposing abilities and confirmed safety, leading to its commercialization as a bio-agent. It was launched in 1994 as the commercial environmental purification bio-agent 'BN Clean.' This microorganism is generally classified as a Bacillus subtilis (a member of the natto bacteria family) and has been named Bacillus subtilis BN1001 as a new species with excellent grease-decomposing capabilities.
