Ground investigation service "Swedish Sounding Test"
It is recommended in the "Guidelines for the Basic Design of Small-Scale Buildings" edited by the Architectural Institute of Japan.
At Geotech Co., Ltd., we offer a wide range of services including the commonly used Swedish sounding test for residential foundation surveys, as well as boring surveys suitable for large buildings and various soil tests. The "Swedish sounding test" was adopted around 1917 by the Swedish State Railways for investigating poor roadbeds and later became widely used in Scandinavian countries. It was introduced in Japan around 1954 by the Ministry of Construction for embankment foundation surveys. In 1976, it was established as a JIS standard, and now most foundation surveys for residential houses are conducted using this test, recognized as JISA1221 (2002). 【Features】 - A rod with a screw point attached to the tip measures penetration depth with a load of up to 100 kg. - When penetration stops, the handle is rotated to screw it into the ground, measuring the half-turn newton required to screw in 1 meter. - The test allows for the differentiation between sandy soil and clayey soil based on the sounds transmitted through the rod and the penetration resistance. - In soft strata, surveys can be conducted to a depth of about 10 meters.
