Electropolishing

We provide high-quality surface treatment that removes fine irregularities, welding discoloration, and burrs, combining gloss and cleanliness.

Toyo Rika Chemical Co., Ltd.'s electro-polishing is a surface treatment technology that achieves a high-smoothness and high-gloss finish by electrolyzing the metal surface in an electrolyte solution and selectively dissolving fine protrusions. It does not require physical polishing processes like buffing, allowing for uniform and highly reproducible treatment. This technology removes surface irregularities, burrs, and welding discoloration, providing not only aesthetic beauty but also practical effects that prevent dirt adhesion and corrosion. Furthermore, a strong oxide film is formed after treatment, enhancing the corrosion resistance of the metal and maintaining high quality over an extended period. Our company supports various stainless steel parts, including SUS304 and SUS316, and has a proven track record in various industries such as semiconductor manufacturing equipment parts, medical devices, food machinery, analytical instruments, and precision parts for research applications. We have established a system to provide high-quality finishes with short lead times for products that require cleanliness, durability, and aesthetics. Our high-precision, high-quality electro-polishing is the ideal solution for companies looking to enhance the added value of their products.

Electrolytic Polishing Akita Chemical Industry

This electro-polishing is precisely the technology that Akita Chemical excels at the most!!

The surface of metals exhibits various roughness due to the influences of their manufacturing processes and mechanical treatments such as machining. For device components made from these metals, a low surface roughness and a shiny appearance are required for their intended purposes. Until now, mechanical polishing (such as buff polishing) has been used to achieve this goal. However, for complex shapes and in precision components where dirt and debris are undesirable, mechanical polishing has become inadequate. Therefore, the process of immersing metals in a solution and utilizing electrical power for polishing, known as electrochemical polishing, has gained attention. In precision component devices, especially those related to semiconductors, many parts undergo this electrochemical polishing.

[Data] List of New Materials for Electrolytic Polishing

By passing electricity through the product in the solution, the protrusions preferentially dissolve, smoothing the surface, which is equivalent to polishing.

This document is a list of new materials for electrolytic polishing. It includes comparisons of #600 wet polishing and electrolytic polishing for steel, stainless steel, and pure metals. Polishing is performed by preferentially dissolving protruding parts by passing electricity through the product in a solution, thereby smoothing the surface. [Items included] ■ Steel ■ Stainless steel ■ Pure metals *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

The mechanism and benefits of titanium electrolytic polishing.

Electrolytic polishing method and the related device have obtained a patent! It is continuously evolving every day.

"Electrolytic Polishing of Titanium" is a technology developed by Sanwa Industry that enables electrolytic polishing and mirror finishing of titanium materials, which has been considered difficult until now. The research and practical application of this technology have been achieved through a collaborative team between Sanwa Industry, Yamaguchi University Faculty of Engineering, Kyushu Dental University, and the Yamaguchi Prefectural Industrial Technology Center. Due to its lightweight, durability, high design potential, and non-allergenic properties, titanium is a material with demand in various fields, and it is believed that this technology will further advance its application and dissemination. [Issues and Solutions for Mirror Finishing of Titanium through Electrolytic Polishing] ■ Issues - The insulating viscous film generated on the material surface during electrolytic polishing interrupts the current and stops the electrolytic action. ■ Solutions - Use an alcohol-based electrolytic polishing solution that does not produce a viscous film even when current is applied. - The alcohol-based electrolytic polishing solution is neutral, non-toxic, and does not pose an explosion risk. *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Electropolishing process

Since it is a method of polishing without applying physical force, it does not stress the surface of the product!

At I-TEC Co., Ltd., we perform "electropolishing" by immersing the product and a negative electrode in an electrolytic solution with oxidizing agents such as phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid, and passing direct current through the product as the anode, which causes the surface of the product to dissolve and be polished. Compared to areas with a thick electrolytic layer (the recessed parts of the product), areas with a thin layer (the protruding parts of the product) have lower electrical resistance and dissolve first, resulting in a smoother surface. Additionally, a passive film, known as an inert film, forms on the surface, concentrating chromium at a density 1.5 times higher than that of regular iron. 【Features】 ■ A surface that is virtually rust-free is achieved. ■ A surface gloss comparable to plating is obtained. *For more details, please feel free to contact us.

Electrolytic polishing (pre-treatment for anodizing)

We are confident in our overwhelming luster. Please choose the electrolytic polishing pre-treatment for occasions when light reflection is needed.

The electrolytic polishing pre-treatment for anodizing is recommended when a glossy finish is required or for mirror finishing. Compared to chemical polishing, it offers higher smoothness, which increases reflectivity and enhances aesthetics. This tendency is particularly pronounced in products without buffing. Before generating the anodized coating, the surface is smoothed while applying electricity through anodizing pre-treatment. It can be used in conjunction with colored anodizing and dyeing anodizing. 【Anodizing Compatible Sizes】 540×400 If you have any questions regarding anodizing, please feel free to contact us. 【Business Activities】 ◆ General aluminum surface treatment ◆ Colored anodizing ◆ Clear anodizing ◆ Anodizing pre-treatment and acidic etching (frosted/matte) ◆ Anodizing pre-treatment and electrolytic polishing (mirror finish) ◆ Anodizing pre-treatment and chemical polishing

Technical Data: Corrosion Resistance of Electropolished Stainless Steel

One reason is that the corrosion resistance improves after electropolishing.

Electropolishing is widely used as a finishing process for stainless steel not only because of its excellent luster but also because it improves corrosion resistance after electropolishing. By electropolishing, the altered layer and temper scale caused by prior machining are removed, along with contaminants on the surface (such as debris and dirt from processing), resulting in a cleaned surface. Additionally, through electropolishing (anodic dissolution), a thin oxide film is formed on the surface, creating a passive film. This passive film has a higher chromium content than the base material (the stainless steel substrate), resulting in a coating with good corrosion resistance. Furthermore, by eliminating surface roughness, it becomes more difficult for debris and dirt to adhere to the surface after electropolishing, which also contributes to improved corrosion resistance.
