The resistance force that acts until the objects start moving is called static friction, while the resistance force that acts after they start moving is called kinetic friction. ■Characteristics of PTFE Fluoropolymer PTFE has an exceptionally low resistance due to friction compared to other resins. The static friction coefficient of PTFE is about 0.04, allowing it to move two objects in contact with a small force. ■Low Friction Properties of Fluoropolymer (PTFE) Fluoropolymer (PTFE) has a low friction coefficient and is also used as a solid lubricant. PTFE has a structure where fluorine atoms tightly surround carbon atoms. The free energy of the fluorine atoms on the molecular surface is low, and the molecules exhibit extremely low polarity in their structural characteristics. Surface treatment technology that imparts low friction properties to the surface of fluorine rubber, which excels in heat resistance, chemical resistance, and weather resistance.

■Characteristics of Fluoroelastomer Fluoroelastomer excels in heat resistance, oil resistance, chemical resistance, and ozone resistance, and is widely used in automotive parts, chemical plants, and semiconductor manufacturing equipment. On the other hand, due to the nature of rubber, it has a high tackiness and is less slippery. ■What is Low Friction? A well-known low-friction material is fluoropolymer PTFE. By using surface treatment technology to reduce the friction coefficient of the rubber surface, it can improve slip resistance and sliding properties. ■Surface Treatment of Rubber Materials Fluoroelastomer has the highest heat resistance among rubbers, around 200°C. However, this is lower compared to metals, making it a challenging material for fluoropolymer coating processing. In the case of O-rings that require replacement, slip properties may be necessary.
