[Case Study] Development of Diverse Thermal Fluid System Technologies

We will introduce examples of how cooling designs have been utilized for electronic devices!

We would like to introduce a case where Mitsubishi Electric utilized our products in the construction of various thermal fluid system technologies. The company believes that the use of optimization tools is essential for future technology development, and has introduced modeFRONTIER and FloTHERM. They promptly attempted the shape optimization of a natural air-cooled heat sink, which was necessary for their operations. The optimization calculation conditions were set with input variables including the number of inner fins, base thickness, fin height, and fin thickness, while width, length, and overall height were fixed values. The optimization calculation was conducted, successfully extracting the optimal shape. Furthermore, it has also been utilized for the optimization calculation of component placement on the substrate. 【Features】 ■ Contributes to product development by establishing versatile technology ■ CFD tools capable of handling large-scale calculations, increasing user numbers, and multi-site operations ■ Expected reduction in calculation time *For more details, please refer to the PDF document or feel free to contact us.

Thermal Fluid Analysis Software PHOENICS

PHOENICS: A fluid analysis software that anyone can buy and use.

Since its release as the world's first three-dimensional general-purpose thermal fluid analysis software, PHOENICS has built a long-standing reputation over the past 30 years as the global standard for CFD software in education, research, and development. In Japan, it has sold over 1,000 licenses to date. There is a reason why it has continued to sell for such a long time in the volatile software industry of science and technology. It accommodates everything from one-dimensional steady calculations to complex flows, including three-dimensional unsteady turbulence with chemical reactions, boiling, and phase changes in multiphase flows. Of course, for those who only need simple flow calculations, as they become more accustomed to the software, their demands will likely grow deeper and larger, such as wanting to use more advanced turbulence models, understanding how high-precision differences would change the results, or adding the atmosphere of the object to the calculation domain. PHOENICS, as a high-function general-purpose thermal fluid analysis software, is capable of meeting such demands. For more details, please contact us or refer to the catalog.

Case Study: Thermal Fluid Analysis of a Muffler

Introduction of recommended software examples for Simcenter Femap users starting thermal fluid analysis.

**Case Overview** ■Product Name: Femap Thermal, Femap Flow ■Analysis: Thermal Fluid Analysis ■Industry: Automotive Femap Thermal/Flow is software for thermal fluid analysis that operates as a Femap application. It can be used with the same operational feel as Femap. By combining Femap Thermal and Femap Flow for thermal fluid analysis, we calculated the flow of exhaust gases within the muffler and the temperature distribution of the muffler due to high-temperature exhaust. Using Femap Thermal and Femap Flow simultaneously allows for thermal fluid analysis. It can solve complex problems such as heat transfer at the fluid-structure interface, fluid flow, thermal conduction in structures, and consideration of radiation at the surface of structures. In this case, we conducted thermal fluid analysis focused on the muffler. We confirmed that we could obtain the temperature difference of exhaust gases at the inlet and outlet, the flow of exhaust gases within the muffler, and the temperature of the surface of the muffler structure, providing the parameters necessary for design. □ For other features and details, please refer to the catalog.

[Case Study of Thermal Fluid Analysis] Analysis of Coating Die using AcuSolve

Conducting thermal fluid analysis of the slot die! It is possible to calculate the temperature changes of the ink and the die.

This article introduces a case study of thermal fluid analysis of a coating die using AcuSolve. Using the general-purpose thermal fluid analysis software AcuSolve, we conduct thermal fluid analysis of a slot die, allowing inks with different physical properties and temperatures to flow in from the inlet. We investigate the spread of the resin and the temperature changes of the mold. We can visualize the spread of the fluid flowing through a narrow channel by coloring it and observing the fluid that enters from a specific inlet. 【Contents】 ■ Overview ■ Model Description and Calculation Conditions ■ Physical Property Values ■ Analysis Results ■ Conclusion *Detailed information about the case study can be viewed through the related links. Thermal fluid analysis software "e-flowDX"

Simulation program for moving boundary problems and free surface problems.

◆Moving Boundary Problem: It is possible to move multiple objects independently and arbitrarily. The analysis of moving boundary problems, such as the movement of complex objects, opening and closing doors, and rotating machinery, which was essentially impossible in unstructured grids, can now be easily performed. It is also possible to feedback the fluid forces acting on the objects into their motion. ● Changes in degrees of freedom such as axial movement and rotation around each coordinate axis can be achieved through simple motion definitions. ● Analysis is possible not only for solid structures with volume but also for thin structures (shells) without thickness. ● Various conditions can be assigned to moving objects, such as heat transfer and mass transfer boundaries, as well as free surface flows. ● The situation of time-varying flow fields can be animated along with the movement of moving objects for detailed examination. ◆ e-flowDX Tsunami Load Analysis Version In response to the unprecedented damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami, there has arisen a necessity for simulations that were not part of previous settings. Specifically, the evaluation of tsunami loads from waves as high as 10 to 20 meters and the assessment of tsunami loads on groups of buildings are now considered essential and urgent for the design of facilities built along the coast, not just for evacuation buildings, but also for urban planning.

Case study of fluid analysis for a two-axis screw compressor.

Introduction to a fluid analysis simulation of a two-axis screw compressor using SimericsMP+ and SCORG, as a case study in thermal fluid analysis.

CFD allows for the shortening of product development periods, reduction of prototype costs, and acquisition of detailed data that is difficult to measure through experiments. In this article, we will introduce application examples that can be useful for product development using Simerics' CAE/CFD software. Two-axis screw compressors have applications in refrigeration and air conditioning-related fields, including air conditioners and refrigerators. In the design process, significant costs and time must be spent on prototyping and experiments. With Simerics' CFD, high-performance thermal fluid analysis can be processed quickly through large-scale parallel computing, yielding results easily and rapidly. Additionally, the cooling lubricants are analyzed using the VOF method, recreating conditions close to actual experiments. This is expected to lead to significant reductions in man-hours and costs! There are many more reasons to use Simerics' CFD software. Please check the link below or feel free to contact us!
