The Innovative Technology Development Research Project aims to pave the way for the future of industries in the next generation, while also establishing a new foundation for development in the 21st century through highly innovative and original technology research. This project widely solicits proposals from private companies, commissions research on excellent proposals, and seeks to foster more innovative and practical technologies. Until fiscal year 2003, this system was implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology as the "Creative Innovative Technology Development Research Proposal Solicitation System." Following the policy of transferring to an independent funding agency as indicated by the Council for Science and Technology Policy, it was transferred to JST starting from new topics in fiscal year 2004 and is currently being implemented.

Free membership registrationIn recent years, while China has achieved remarkable economic growth, the importance of science and technology is increasingly rising. To promote close exchanges between the two countries, it is necessary to understand each other's culture, society, and economy, as well as to deepen the exchange of science and technology. Activating collaboration in science and technology between Japan and China will ultimately contribute significantly to the development of science and technology in the world, and I believe the role of the center is of great significance.

Free membership registrationTo fulfill the mission of the center, it is essential to maintain neutrality, fairness, and equity. Therefore, we will take a comprehensive view of the research areas and create a "Research Area Overview Map." Once the "Overview Map" is completed, researchers will systematically identify the research issues and topics they deem important. Based on comprehensive international comparative studies and trends from abroad, we will prioritize different research areas from the perspective of realizing social visions and meeting social needs, selecting the research areas and issues that should be promoted as priorities by the country, and refining them into strategic proposals such as "Strategic Initiatives," "Strategic Programs," or "Strategic Projects." The results will be proposed to relevant government agencies as appropriate and made publicly available on the internet. The activities and outcomes of the center are evaluated by an advisory committee of external experts, who provide advice that contributes to the improvement of the center's activities and the enhancement of the quality of its results.

Free membership registrationIn order to continuously and steadily promote the reduction of greenhouse gases over the medium to long term, we aim to create "game-changing technologies" that realize breakthroughs and fundamentally transform existing concepts. We will conduct research and development to create technologies with significant potential for greenhouse gas reduction based on new scientific and technological insights. Specifically, we will cover the phases from basic research targeting fundamental scientific and technological elements that lead to new principles and breakthroughs, to the research and development phase that expands and develops the generated technological seeds into technologies that can significantly contribute to greenhouse gas reduction. We will provide research and development funding of approximately 10 million to 100 million yen per project annually, supported for up to 10 years, while conducting stage-gate evaluations. The research and development outcomes obtained through this support are expected to lead to future green innovations.

Free membership registrationThis is a JST project that promotes purpose-driven basic research in a top-down manner to achieve national policy goals, aiming to create technology seeds that are beneficial to industry and society. The researchers involved are from universities, public research institutions, and private companies, forming time-limited interdisciplinary research communities to advance the research. This contrasts with bottom-up scientific research grants that respect individual researchers' proposals.
