When I first started my own web development business after separating from the web production department of a printing company, I must admit that I was not truly providing value to my clients. The projects I took on were focused solely on quickly generating revenue, and I would make bland proposals and designs just to get a "YES" from the clients. Gradually, clients began to drift away from us... As clients left, I began to think... "What do clients really want?" Clients did not want a "website." What they truly sought was the effect of "increased sales" or "enhanced branding" through the tool of a website. Realizing this, our company's direction changed 180 degrees. I recognized that, regardless of profitability, engaging in discussions with clients—even if it took time—ultimately led to their satisfaction and, in turn, our own satisfaction.
