Free membership registrationStarting from February 1, 2021, we have commenced the operation of an RFID-specific "RFID Test Bed" aimed at the development and demonstration of basic and applied technologies related to the radio wave propagation characteristics of management objects with UHF band RF tags attached. This test bed was established as part of a project adopted for funding by the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) on March 13, 2020, for the utilization of new technology development facilities. The operational RFID test bed consists of a large anechoic chamber (6.5m × 4.5m × H3.4m) and a dedicated wideband reader-writer along with transmitting and receiving antennas, making it one of the largest permanent RFID evaluation facilities in Japan. Large management objects with UHF band 920MHz RF tags attached can be brought into the chamber, allowing for the evaluation of radio wave propagation characteristics between the transmitting and receiving antennas and the RF tags. The performance of RF tags can significantly deteriorate depending on the conductivity, dielectric constant, shape, etc., of the object to which they are attached; however, even for large management objects, precise evaluations can be conducted in conditions close to the actual installation environment.
