What can be done to shorten processing time... The reduction of processing time has been and will continue to be a challenge. In the processing field, there is a daily battle against time. In the past, after processing with a machine, the workpiece would be measured with instruments like microscopes, and if any corrections were needed, it would be set back on the machine for reprocessing... This repetition was the norm. While it is true that processing takes time, there are many instances where setting up takes a significant amount of time, especially for complex shapes or tight tolerances, which require even more effort in setting the workpiece. The first on-machine measurement device was developed under the name "S-1000." Its features were targeted towards die-sinking electrical discharge machines and wire electrical discharge machines, and it was used in our company’s operations. We attempted to sell it beyond internal use, but it did not sell as well as we had hoped, leading to many challenges. In response, we established the Planning and Development Department in 2016 to overcome the challenges of the on-machine measurement device and seek further evolution. One year after its establishment, through trial and error, the new on-machine measurement device 'NK-2000' was born. Measurement work is essential in the manufacturing process of mold components. By utilizing the "NK-2000," measurements can be taken without removing the workpiece from the processing machine, allowing for the additional processing dimensions to be understood while still in the chuck state, thus achieving improved processing accuracy and reduced processing time. The imaging unit is equipped with coaxial and ring lighting. Brightness adjustment can be operated via a tablet computer, which serves as the controller, clearly capturing the edges of the workpiece. The onboard measuring device "NK-2000" is equipped with various functions. For example, it has "processing surface edge detection and zoom-up functionality." Image resolution: 1μm/pixel. It can be variably adjusted from 100x to 1600x using digital zoom. Additionally, the "calculation function" allows for shape measurement of processed products from various calculation menus, and it can also perform pitch measurements between processing parts by utilizing the measurement result history. We would like to introduce an example of the wireless 'NK-2000' that we actually use in our company. The key feature is that it allows movement between processing machines without wiring within the factory. The "NK-2000" is a new type of onboard measurement system that allows for immediate onboard measurement of processed products without altering them after machining. Using measurement menus for linear dimensions, circles, and angles, it is possible to measure the shape of the processed products.
