The customer's request was for a "hard surface treatment that can withstand harsh environments." Our company proposed "hard chrome plating," which boasts exceptional hardness among plating treatments. Since welding is performed in a later process, it was necessary to leave certain areas unplated, requiring specialized equipment. Therefore, we simultaneously developed and installed dedicated jigs, masking methods, and a dedicated line, successfully establishing a system to stably supply the requested plating treatment. A major manufacturer consulted us about wanting to transfer the plating process for concert xylophones and glockenspiels. Since we had the same type of plating bath, it seemed to have a lower hurdle compared to transferring it to another company. However, we found that there were differences in the metal content of the plating film, making it impossible to create a process that matched perfectly. Therefore, we conducted trials under various conditions. After several rounds of prototypes, we were able to establish a process that was comparable to the one before the transfer.
