We would like to introduce ODU's "High Voltage Connectors." The requirements for the development and design of high voltage connectors include the design of insulators that respond to the need for miniaturization while considering interference between contacts. To achieve continuous conduction of high voltage in a compact connector, it is essential to ensure appropriate spatial and creepage distances. Furthermore, it is important to prevent irregularities such as edges and corners in the product design. This is because if there are irregularities in the contacts that are arranged at regular intervals, the electric field strength may increase several times. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is a condition that should be considered in various applications and is generally a solution suitable for applications characterized by fixed connectors or a low number of mating cycles. However, the design of EMC shielded connectors used in products that require a high number of mating cycles and have advanced mechanical specifications is a significant challenge. ODU systematically addresses these various challenges. In other words, we consolidate the necessary manufacturing know-how and expertise and apply them to individual issues. The foundation of connector development includes specialized knowledge about materials, selection of sealing methods suitable for applications, operation of various sealing technologies, comprehensive analysis using Finite Element Method (FEM), and experience-based know-how. There are various reasons why airtightness or waterproofing is required for connectors and their systems. For example, in equipment that uses high-pressure washers, waterproof connectors with protection rating IP 69K are necessary to maintain the functionality of the equipment over a long period. In the railway sector, waterproof connectors rated IP 69K are required to prevent degradation of functionality over time. Wiring of connectors tends to be overlooked compared to the performance and functionality of the connector system. However, when considering both thermal flow and current, the section from the connector to the cable becomes extremely important.
