The basic mechanism of a light sensor involves detecting incoming light and, depending on its intensity and wavelength, demonstrating various responses at a part called the light-receiving element, which converts it into an electrical signal. Additionally, when combined with a light-emitting element, it can detect various states based on the transmission or reflection of light. Next, the operating principle of a light sensor is to detect various information based on the magnitude of the current generated when light is incident on the light-receiving element. In the case of a photodiode being used as the light-receiving element, when light is incident, photons generate and separate electrons and holes within the semiconductor, producing a current in the external circuit. Since the current changes in proportion to the intensity of the light, the strength of the light can be measured electrically. This document introduces the applications and examples of light sensors.
