This is a case study of a transport and crushing system that effectively utilizes vertical space in a factory where there is not enough room to install a conveyor. By utilizing a pit of about 3 meters, a crusher is placed, and below it, a centrifugal oil separator is installed. This configuration not only achieves space-saving but also prevents the dispersion of chips and avoids oil expansion. Since large amounts of hard chips can be fed in an instant, a custom-designed large-capacity chip crusher was created. This successfully established a transport and crushing system without significantly altering the existing operational flow of the site. This is a case study of a company that processes large parts for aircraft and shipbuilding manufacturers, where a transport and crushing system has been implemented. Parts for aircraft and ships are machined from solid components, resulting in several times the volume of chips being produced compared to the mass of the final product. In the design phase, we visited the site multiple times to analyze the timing, quantity, and accumulation conditions of the chips. We had to overcome the challenges of retrofitting a chip processing system into an existing factory. We would like to introduce a case study of the implementation of a transport and crushing system at a factory that manufactures large-scale equipment. A massive turning machine has been installed, and a custom chain conveyor has been arranged in a circular manner around the lathe to cut materials on a table with a diameter of approximately 10 meters. The generated chips are transported by a chip conveyor, crushed by a large rotary crusher, and then sent through a centrifugal oil extractor for oil removal before being discharged into an outdoor storage hopper. Before the introduction of a new German-made planomiller, it was necessary to prepare the surrounding transport system.
