[Case Study] Reducing Waste in Production

A case where effects were obtained that not only improved cost aspects but also enhanced productivity and flexibility in process design!

We would like to introduce a case where our proposal led to the reduction of unnecessary processes and resources related to materials and plating treatment. As background, in the insert molding and assembly processes, we had to cut and discard part of the terminals to secure the necessary workspace. As a result, despite the terminals not being used, costs for materials and plating treatment were incurred, leading to higher manufacturing and plating costs than necessary. Therefore, we proposed a method to transfer the terminals to a different transport band after plating and re-crimp them in a manner suitable for the conditions of the subsequent process. We will introduce a case study that achieved cost reduction and space-saving in the production of assembly equipment for electronic components and similar items. The challenges faced by our customer included the need for a significant initial investment of several tens of millions of yen per unit to introduce new assembly machines, which placed a heavy financial burden on them. Additionally, the requirement for installation space of about 8 to 10 meters per line posed significant challenges in terms of layout constraints and space allocation within the factory. By utilizing molds, we proposed a replacement for the conventional assembly machines. This allowed for more effective use of the limited factory space and enabled the establishment of a flexible system that can adapt to future line expansions and process reviews. [Case Study] Reducing Plating Costs

Contributing significantly to the optimization of product costs while responding to soaring gold prices!

We would like to introduce a case where our proposed new method significantly reduced the area requiring gold plating. The customer faced a challenge where, amidst soaring gold prices, it was necessary to allow for margins in terminal design to accommodate post-plating insert molding and assembly processes. However, gold was being used in areas that were actually unnecessary, leading to plating costs exceeding expectations. To address this, we manufactured terminals while minimizing the margins and performed gold plating. After that, we implemented pitch conversion by crimping the terminals to a different band with a long pitch.
